The crash took place in Nassau County around 9 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 28, near the Town of North Hempstead, said the New York State Police.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the crash occurred when a 2016 Jeep Wrangler traveling eastbound, struck the rear of a 2017 Dodge Durango traveling in the right lane, state police said.
The impact caused the Jeep to leave the roadway onto the right shoulder before striking a tree and catching on fire.
The driver of the Jeep died at the scene, state police said.
